ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: At least 833 Pakistanis have been deported during the past one-and-a-half-year from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, a written reply from Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri in the National Assembly said.

"They were mainly deported because of their criminal record, illegal status and their involvement in various types of felonies," the minister's reply said during the question-hour session on Monday.

The number of Pakistanis deported from Canada during the period was 125, adding that most of them had been deported on charges of staying illegally in that country.

Similarly, 141 Pakistanis had been deported from Britain during the same period after being found guilty of illegal entry into the UK.

The reply said that Pakistan enjoyed friendly relations with the US and efforts were underway to increase the cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

The minister's statement said that Pakistan and the US had signed six agreements to increase cooperation since September 2000.

It said that these agreements included establishment of Pak-US Joint Commission, provision of US aid for education sector reforms and rescheduling of $3 billion debt.-APP
