HYDERABAD, Oct 21: The Anjuman Tajiran-i-Sindh has condemned inordinate increases in prices of consumer goods during the month of Ramazan.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the president of the organization, Mr Zakir Bin Zahid, Ashraf Memon and Fayaz Awan said that recent incidents of harassment of retailers were a clear negation of the decisions taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of DCO Hyderabad on the eve of Ramazan.

They reminded the administration that it was decided in the meeting that action would be taken against the wholesale dealers and the suppliers, if they supplied consumer goods to retailers at prices higher than those fixed by the price control committee.

They said the retailers were being harassed and punished in violation of the above decision.

They said the action against traders was in vilolation of the rules of justice as the wholesale dealers and suppliers, who were responsible for the price hike, were not being touched.

They said the hoarders earned more profits just in one month than what they usually earn in 11 months.

They demanded that the DCO Hyderabad should implement the decision of the price control committee and arrest big fishes instead of harassing the poor retailers.

BOOKED: The deputy district officers who have been delegated the powers of special magistrates on Wednesday booked 62 shopkeepers and vendors in the city on the charges of profiteering and recovered Rs17,150 in the shape of fine.
