ISLAMABAD, Oct 18: The Election Commission on Monday restored the membership of 12 provicial legislators who had been suspended for failing to submit annual statements of their assets and liabilities with the commission.

On Friday last, the Election Commission had issued a notification of suspending 16 MPAs for not filing the statements by Sept 30, a deadline set for the purpose.

In an official announcement, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Irshad Hasan Khan said 12 of the 16 members had submitted statements with the commission.

Five MPAs of Punjab who have been restored are: Faisal Hayat Jaboona (PP-82, Jhang-X), Pir Syed Saeedul Hassan Shah (PP-132, Narowal-I), Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan (PP-149, Lahore-XIII), Rana Muhammad Tajammal Hussain (PP-157, Lahore-XXI) and Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas Khan (PP-175, Kasur-I).

The four lawmakers from Sindh restored are: Mir Ghulam Abid Khan Sundrani (PS-17, Jacobabad-V), Altaf Hussain Unar (PS-35, Larkana-I), Ms Farzana (elected on the reserved seats for women) and Yaqoob Ilyas (elected on the reserved seats for non-Muslims).

Similarly, Shad Muhammad Khan (PF-39, Kohat-III) of the NWFP Assembly and two members from the Balochistan Assembly who submitted their statements are Sardar Masood Ali Khan (PB-14, Loralai) and Muhammad Asim Kurd Gailoo (PB-30, Kachhi-I).
