LAHORE, Oct 2: Railway Minister Shamim Haider has directed the officers concerned to take measures to retrieve its land from mafia and encroachers.

Presiding over a meeting here at the railway headquarters on Saturday, he said the PR would have to use all resources for the purpose.

The minister said the issue of katchi abadis would be settled in consultation with the provincial governments. The government should identify katchi abadis near the railway land and build boundary walls around them so that the land grabbers could not occupy it.

He directed the officers to complete land record so that the PR could utilize the land for commercial purpose.

The meeting was told that 105 katchi abadis were built on the railway land whose matter was being resolved under the federal government's rules in this regard. Of them 28 had been declared legal.

The meeting was told that some 2,661 acres of land was encroached upon.
