MULTAN, Aug 14: Two young women and four children of a family drowned near Bahawalnagar on Saturday, as a torrential stream took them along when they were crossing the dry bed of the Sutlej.

Reports reaching here said, Nooran Mai of Takhat Mehal had developed differences with her husband, Muhammad Sanjwar, over the marriage prospects of their daughter, Nazeeran (16).

Nooran wanted to marry Nazeeran with her nephew while her husband opposed the idea. On Saturday, the couple again exchanged harsh words over the issue after which the estranged wife decided to go to her parents in Ludan area of Vehari district.

She took along her children Nazeeran, Sumera (8), Ameera (5), Ahmad Raza (4), Zulekha (22), and granddaughter Saima (4). In the middle of the river, watery grave welcomed them and only Nooran could survive.

According to the latest reports, police and military divers were busy in fishing out bodies and they had pulled out four of them.
