FAISALABAD, June 27: Elected representatives and the Mamukanjan farming community have threatened to launch a protest campaign against the Irrigation officials if the approved quantity of water was not released in the canals by June 30.

In a statement here on Sunday, Union Council Nazims Chaudhry Muhammad Ashan, Chaudhry Mehmood Ahmed, Mian Arshad Mehmood along with office-bearers of farmers bodies alleged that the Irrigation officials had received bribe from the influential landlords of the area and illegally providing them canal water.

They also threatened to stage a sit-in in front of the offices of the district Nazim and the district coordination officer if their demands were not met by the deadline.

SUSPICION: A boy shot dead his aunt on suspicion of illicit relations in Chak 617-GB here on Saturday night.

Reports said Aftab Ahmed attacked Naikan Bibi when she was sitting in her house. The woman sustained serious wounds and died on the spot. Police have registered a case.

SUICIDE: Two jobless youths ended their lives due to financial constraints in different incidents here on Sunday. Muhammad Javed of Chak 100-JB had been jobless for the last many years. He hanged himself with a ceiling fan of his room.

A recently-married youth, Muhammad Khan of Chak 89-JB, took poisonous tablets.
