HYDERABAD, June 27: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has contradicted the Sindh government's version in respect of a meeting between the Sindh finance secretary and Hesco chief about the settlement of electricity dues.

A spokesmen for Hesco in a statement on Saturday said that contents of the Sindh government's statement that Hesco had waived outstanding bills of Rs1 billion was totally incorrect.

He said that not such a decision had been taken in the meeting held on June 25. He said that the Sindh government wanted to take maximum concessions by proving Hesco wrong.

He said that even the agreed amount from July 2002 to Dec 2003 was no being paid by the Sindh government.

The Hesco spokesman reiterated that the Sindh government had paid only Rs450 million to Hesco since May 30 and an amount of Rs1,277 million was still outstanding against the Sindh government departments.

DCO: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, also the director-general of the HDA, has said that a separate emergency electric line is being installed at the HDA water filter plant to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the people.

In a statement on Saturday, he said that in case of power breakdown at the water filter plant, the proposed electricity line would be utilized.
