KARACHI, June 26: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that in view of uncertain law and order in the city during the last one-and-a-half month, no "peace rally" would be allowed in the city.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting, in which the issue of 'Peace March' announced for June 27 (today) by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal was reviewed.

The session was informed that gathering of five or more than five persons had been prohibited through imposing section 144 in the city and no party or group would be allowed to observe any sort of illegal march, rally or procession. Besides, any party or groups, including the Pakistan Muslim League, found violating the law, strict action would be taken against them.

Chief minister told the session that the said step had been taken in the 'greater interest' of the residents of the city and those giving call for the march.

He directed police, Rangers and other law-enforcement agencies to foil every attempt to stage the 'Peace March' and take appropriate measures in order to safeguard the life and property of the people.

Dr Rahim has also appealed to the people to avoid participating in any such rally in view of the prevailing circumstances. Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjarani, IG Syed kamal Shah, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anwar Haider, Rangers' DG Maj Gen Javed Zia and chief minister's principal secretary were present on the occasion.-PPI
