MIRPURKHAS, June 25: Residents of different localities took out a procession here on Friday besides blocking the Sindhri railway crossing for half an hour and burning tyres to protest against two-month-long suspension of water supply to their areas.

Raising slogans against the taluka municipal administration, the protesters demanded that the authorities should ensure regular water supply to the localities.

When the Town police had the blockade removed, they made their way towards the TMA office where they raised slogans against the administration and demanded water.

Talking to journalists, they said that due to the non-supply of water, they were compelled to fetch water from distant areas while adding that despite repeated complaints, the TMA made no effort to resolve the problem.

It was clearly a case of misappropriation of funds and resources, they alleged and demanded that the governor as well as the chief minister should take notice of the matter and ensure regular water supply, failing which, they would be forced to create a law and order situation.

ACCIDENT: A person was killed and four others seriously injured when a Mirpurkhas-bound rickshaw collided with a tractor trolley on the Hyderabad road on Thursday.

Rickshaw driver Ayaz, son of Riaz, resident of Bhan Singhabad, lost control over his vehicle near the Ring road which collided with a tractor trolley. As a result, he was killed on the spot whereas Moatbar Shah, Shakeel, Fayazuddin and Akhtar Allaudin sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital.

Shakeel and Fayazuddin were referred to Karachi and Hyderabad because of their critical condition.

HUNGER STRIKE: The People's Party Parliamentarians, Mirpurkhas, observed a token hunger strike at the Post Office Chowk on Friday to protest against the 'assassination' of Munawar Suharwardy.

PPP provincial president (minority wing) Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, district president Dr Saroop Chand, Haneef Memon and others observed the hunger strike. They demanded that the government should ensure arrest of the killers of Suharwardy without further delay.

LOOTED: Unidentified gunmen barged into the house of Mohammad Aslam at Nai Para on Friday and, on gunpoint, looted Rs12,900 and gold ornaments and fled.
