KARACHI, June 12: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan has inaugurated repair and renovation works at three hospitals at a total cost of Rs23.40 million on Friday.

According to details, Rs8.35 million would be spent on Spencer Eye Hospital.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Sultan Ali informed the nazim, during his visit, about the problems of the hospital.

Naimat directed the EDO Works and contractor to complete the work in four months instead of nine, by carrying out work round the clock.

Later, the nazim launched the construction of an operation theatre and renovation work at Eidgah Maternity Home at a cost of Rs6.581 million. Its period of completion was also reduced from nine to four months. In-charge of the maternity home Dr Fahmida, briefed the nazim about performance of the hospital.

The city nazim then launched works at Sarfraz Rafiqi Shaheed Hospital at a cost of Rs8.464 million.

Medical Superintendent Dr Rafiq Ahmed, while briefing the Nazim, informed that since the hospital was situated in a very populated area of the city, its services were being availed not only by government employees, but a large number of outdoor patients as well.

Naimat, on the occasion, observed that institutions providing medical services and their staff, in fact served the cause of humanity. He advised that they should be well mannered, and should treat patients with affection.

SECURITY MEASURES: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan has said the city government is seriously considering the installation of latest digital video cameras on roads and inter- sections and construction of a control room, tenders for which will be floated, and a company selected through a transparent process.

He said this while chairing a meeting at Civic Centre on Saturday.

Naimat said there was a need for improving the city's security system, adding that installation of cameras and setting up a control room will help in monitoring the movement of vehicles used in dacoities and crimes, as well as, identifying mischievous elements joining protest demonstrations.

He said the traffic system could be improved with the use of video cameras.

It was also decided that a committee would be set up for installing video cameras, besides a control room under a modern security system. The committee, it was added, would comprise officials of traffic police, crime police, rangers and city government.

The city nazim issued directives for preparing a feasibility report for installation of the video recording cameras, in the first phase, at Zero Point Super Highway, Saddar, M A Jinnah Road, I I Chundrigar Road and Sharea Faisal.

CATTLE COLONY: The city nazim Naimatullah Khan has said water is a basic necessity, and the city government is making all efforts to ensure that this basic commodity reaches every citizen.

He was speaking at a function held during his visit to Cattle Colony, Surjani Town on Friday.

The nazim said for the time being, water supply to the colony was not possible, however, he would talk to DG Rangers for supplying 25 water tankers daily to the colony.

He added that on the directive of President Pervez Musharraf, work was underway for an additional 100 Mgd K-III water supply project, which would hopefully be completed next year.

However, Naimat said, even after commissioning of the project, the city would continue facing water shortage because of its fast growing population.

He informed the gathering that new sewerage lines were being laid in the colony.

As regards to power supply, he said he would speak to MD KESC to get the problem resolved.

Residents of the colony complained that at the time of shifting of cattle yards in 1991, it was promised that proprietary rights would be granted on 50 per cent payment, but the promise was yet to materialised.-APP
