ISLAMABAD, May 14: Politicians belonging to various parties have stressed that Pakistan should learn a lesson from the "free and fair" elections held in India and expressed the hope that peace process between the two countries will continue.

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto termed the elections in India as "triumph of democracy and the principle of peaceful transfer of power through the will of the people."

In a statement, she said it was a measure of strength of Indian democracy that power transfer took place in a democratic and peaceful manner. Ms Bhutto said there were lessons in the Indian election for those in Pakistan who subverted the Constitution and suspended the democratic process for their personal political ends.

"Adventurers in Pakistan should learn a lesson from the Indian elections and show respect for the will of the people expressed through fair and free elections," she said.
