FAISALABAD, May 1: A plan of the local police to constitute mobile squads at the union council level hangs in the balance after the objections raised by an audit team of the district government.

A reliable source told this scribe that the plan had been conceived by the district government and the police to depute two armed commandos in high crime rate areas. The union council concerned has been asked to provide motorcycles and wireless sets to the commandos from funds provided by the district government. Of 289 union councils in the district, around 100 have so far sanctioned funds for motorcycle and wireless sets.

After objection raised by several members of the district government, the matter was put before the district council which formed a committee to study the plan.

The committee and an audit team of the district government raised a number of objections and found the plan was a violation of rules.

The source said the district government decided to put the matter before the house again for getting its approval so that it could be sent to the provincial government for final approval. The plan has been included in the agenda of the district council session scheduled to be held on May 4.

He said union councils of Tandlianwala, Saddar, Chak Jhumra Samundri and city have already started implementation on this security plan.

Jaranwala is the only tehsil of the district which had expressed its reservations over the plan.
