KARACHI, April 17: Pakistan boxing coach Renaldo Alvaris says he has confidence in the 16 pugilists selected for the training camp, which commences on Sunday to prepare them for four international events , scheduled to kick off from next month.

Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has called up eight senior boxers, five juniors and three cadets to participate in the camp at PNS Karsaz.

Mehrullah, Nauman Karim and Asghar Ali Shah who have already qualified from the first two qualifiers for the Athens Olympic will also attend the camp.

A PBF spokesman said the three qualified boxers with others who would hopefully qualify at the third qualifiers would compete in the pre-Olympic tournament to be held at Athens by the end of next month. The third qualifiers will be held here from May 6 to 12.

Juniors who will prepare for the 17th Junior World boxing championship being organized from June 12 in Korea while the cadets will train themselves for the Asian Cadet championships in Hanoi, Vietnam from Oct 25.

Renaldo, Zaigham Maseel, Adam Kutchi and Munir Hussain are camp coaches, and Cdr Muhammad Ali is camp commander.

Every Friday a sparring competition will be held which will be open to all boxers. The Cuban coach said that he would get into the camp any boy who showed talent in the competition.

Following boxers will attend the camp:

Seniors: Noman Kareem, Shoaib Rasheed, Mehrullah, Sohail Ahmed, Asghar Ali Shah, Faisal Kareem, Nisar Ahmed, Ahmed Ali.

Juniors: Shahid Khan (KPT), Muhammad Raza (Balochistan), Ali Muhammad (KPT), Mushtaque Hussain (Balochistan), Muhammad Younus (Wapda). Cadets: Muhammad Raza (Balochistan), Nadir Khan (Sindh), Karrar Hussain.-PPI
