KARACHI, April 17: Police have been taking strict measures to check the recurrence of encroachments in Saddar after their removal in a campaign launched since January this year , assistant superintendent police, Preedy, Javed Ali Mehar, claimed on Saturday.

He said that 1,030 people, including patharedars, pushcart-holders, juice-vendors, etc were picked up since January and were booked under relevant sections of the Police Order-2002, for creating hindrance in the flow of vehicular traffic. Their belongings were also seized and handed over to the Saddar town municipal administration and they were fined and sent to jail by a court, he added.

He said the operation was carried out on Abdullah Haroon Road, Zaibunnisa street, Sharah-i-Iraq, Preedy street, Shahrah-i-Liaquat, Mansfield street, Dawoodpota Road, Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road and Bohri Bazaar.

Besides, the anti-encroachment operation was also carried out at the Jama Cloth Market, Allahwali Market, Arambagh furniture market, etc, Mr Mehar added.
