Published April 11, 2004

LAHORE, April 10: The Punjab government has decided to establish a book street in the city. This was announced at a meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Kamran Rasool here on Saturday. The meeting was briefed on Tajdeed-i-Lahore project and the plan for overall beautification of the city.

It was stated that the establishment of the street was aimed at providing standardized reading material to people and inculcating the reading habit among them. A readers' club would also be established on the street.

The chief secretary asked the PHA director-general to prepare a plan for a walkway in the Walled City, connecting its streets with buildings of historic importance.

He also asked him to provide more jogging tracks in parks, arrange floodlit cricket in the city and ensure environment-friendly hoardings.

Presiding over another meeting, the chief secretary took serious notice of wall-chalking in Lahore, asking the authorities concerned to take stern action against those indulging in it.
