LARKANA, April 10: Sindh Population Welfare Minister Imtiaz Shaikh has supported the proposal of giving 10 years age relaxation in recruitment and said the matter will be taken up at the next cabinet meeting.

Talking to journalists after attending a one-day seminar on registered medical practitioners and provincial line departments here on Saturday, he said that he was for age relaxation for job aspirants as there had been a ban on recruitment for a long time.

Responding to a question, he said that the Sindh Democratic Alliance had not changed its stance on construction of the Kalabagh dam and other Sindh issues despite its merger with the Pakistan Muslim League-Q.

When asked about Sindh's share in the National Finance Commission award, he hoped that no excess would be made against the province in the distribution of the award.

Mr Shaikh said that Sindh was fighting its case effectively and it was for the first time that revenue generation had been included in demands by the province. He expressed the hope that the matter would be resolved without harming Sindh's interests.

About restructuring of the PML-Q in Sindh, he said that it would be discussed at the party's meeting on April 13. He denied any differences in the party.

The population welfare minister announced that family planning seminars would be held in rural areas with cooperation of NGOs and religious scholars. He said that the target of population growth rate of 1.9 would be achieved by the end of the year.

Speaking on the occasion, the EDO, health, Dr Abdul Wahab Wadho and Maulvi Imdadullah Korai, Mohammad Panjal Sangi and others also stressed the need for controlling the population growth rate.

The minister later visited the Chandka Medical College Hospital where he told the medical superintendent that disparity in fund allocations for hospitals in the province would be taken up at the cabinet meeting.
