ISLAMABAD, April 3: On a day of mixed fortunes, Pakistani shuttlers on Saturday won three matches but conceded defeat in three others in the quarterfinal round of 9th SAF Games at Rodham Hall of Pakistan Sports Complex.

In men's double, women's double and mix double, Pakistan's shuttlers lived up to the expectations to comprehensively beat their rivals.

In the first men's double, Rizwan Asghar Rana paired with Umar Zeeshan to defeat Sri Lanka's duo of Niluka Karunaratne and Brinsly Chamira 15-2, 15-10 in straight sets. The Pakistani players delighted the crowd with fine display of skill and experience.

Pakistan's Ali Yar Baig and Saima Manzoor joined hands in the men's mix double to beat their Sri Lankan counterparts Brinsly Chamira and Pamisha Deshanthi, 15-13, 15-9.

Female shutters from Pakistan also registered win in the quarter final against their Sri Lankan competitors.

Asma Butt and Uzma Butt overcame some resistance by their opponents Rasangi Kalpana and Nadeeshah Gayanthi to win the game 7-15, 15-12 and 15-6.

The Sri Lankan duo played good game to claim the first set but gave in to the spirited Pakistani players in the following two sets.

In the second Men's double Pakistan's Tahir Ishaq Mir and Waqas Masood lost to Sri Lankan duo of Duminda Jayakody and Thushara Yasalal 4-15, 11-15.

In the second mix double Thushara Yasalal and Renu Chandrika of Sri Lanka beat their Pakistani rivals Ashraf Masih and Uzma Butt 4-15 and 8-15.

Pakistan's female duo of Aisha Akram and Saima Manzoor also lost their game to Sri Lankan Renu Chandhrika and Pamisha in the women's double game.

India's Rupesh Kumar and Markose Bristow won the men's double beating Bangladesh's Anayetullah and Moktar Hossain 15-3 and 15-8.

Indian duo of Markose Bristow and Manjusha Kanwar also claimed the mixed double by beating Pashupatipaneru and Sumina Shrestha of Nepal 15-0, 15-4.

In the first Men's single, Nepal's Pashupati Paneru lost to Abhinn Shyam Gopta of India 4-15, 3-15.

In another mix-double, Indian pair of Jaseel Parves and Jwala Gutta won their match against Nepalese Kiran Thapa and Rajani Joshi, 15-1, 15-1.

The second men's single was won by India's Chetan Anand, beating his Nepalese rival Balram Thapa 5-2, 15-5.

In the third men's single, Sri Lanka's UDRP Kumara beat his Bangladeshi counterpart Mostafa Jabed 17-15 and 15-10.-APP
