KARACHI, April 3: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain said on Saturday that those who had been conspiring to eliminate his party had themselves perished now and their chapter had been closed.

He was addressing a jubilant crowd at 'Nine Zero' following arrest of Afaq Ahmad, the chief of Mohajir Qaumi Movement.

"Those who were making tall claims of closing our chapter, have themselves got their chapter closed," said Mr Hussain without naming Afaq Ahmad. He paid tributes to those who were killed or had to go through immense hardship since June 1992 crackdown on his party.

The doors of Muttahida are open to the misguided supporters of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, he declared, saying that such people had been coerced into a situation of confrontation with the Muttahida.

Mr Hussain criticized those who use to ridicule Muttahida, and indicated that: "we have not only survived, but also are able to win over many a people across the country who are convinced that this exploitative feudal system must perish and that those who thrived on power of gun must be silenced."

Mr Hussain cautioned his party activists against those abetting such elements.

Earlier, members of the Muttahida's coordination committee said the objective of the meeting was to take them into confidence with regard to various important political and other developments in the country. Without taking name of Afaq Ahmad, it charged him with the killing of several thousand party supporters. The committee alleged that because of his treachery, thousands of families had lost their loved ones.
