KHAIRPUR, June 1: Three processions were taken out to protest against the Hesco officials in three main towns of Khairpur district on Saturday.

A demonstration was staged in Karoondi town, Faiz Ganj taluka, where a large number of citizens, including businessmen, observed a strike, blocked Nawabshah-Khairpur-Kumb road and staged a protest sit-in.

Speaking on the occasion, the protesters said that the electric wires, from Ghulam Shah area to Karoondi, had got broken due to the heavy storm some four days back and were not repaired.

Due to the breaking of the wires, the residents of more than 30 villages were facing power breakdown. The protest was called off when the local administration assured the protesters of immediate action.

Another demonstration was held in Gambat where the residents of the taluka headquarter took out a procession on motorbikes from Abul Wah.

The procession, which passed through the town, raised slogans against Hesco officials.

Later, the participants of the procession marched for 7 kilometres from Gambat to Ranipur.

The protesters said that the residents of Gambat and other nearby areas had been facing difficulties created by Hesco Gambat officials in the form of detection bills and unscheduled loadshedding.

They said that the electricity supply to the areas remained suspended for 10 to 15 hours.

They demanded immediate action against those Hesco workers who were responsible for it. The villagers of 50 villages of taluka Kot Diji staged a protest against power disconnection of their villages on Saturday.
