ISLAMABAD, June 1: Urs of the 17th century mystic, Shah Abdul Latif Bari Imam, will be observed in Noorpur Shahan here from Sunday to Thursday.

According to a press release, Mari Gas Pakistan chairman Lt-Gen (Retd) Mohammad Afzal Janjua will lead a procession of devotees from the Bari Imam House to the shrine to inaugurate the festivities by laying a mantle on the tomb after Asr prayers.

Ghusl of the shrine was performed on Saturday.

The annual five-day event will attract thousands of devotees from all over the country who converge on the shrine on foot as a mark of respect for the mystic who always liked to walk rather than ride to his destination.

The devotees will keep coming to the shrine in small groups locally called Dali, carrying replicas of the mausoleum, singing devotional songs and dancing to drum beat. The main Dali comes from Peshawar at the start of the festivities.—APP
