KARACHI: Land-use plan for Karachi

KARACHI, Feb 7: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi has directed the additional chief secretary (Local Government) and the DCO Karachi to prepare a land-use plan for Karachi.

He said the rights of people belonging to rural areas must be protected and inclusion of a green belt ensured in the plan.

Addressing a high-level meeting on Saturday, the chief secretary directed the officials to take concrete steps for water supply and sewerage systems, environmental beauty, development of coastal areas, purposeful utilisation of land and judicious use of resources. He also directed that an effective strategy be devised for disposal of solid waste in the city.

The chief secretary said the land-use plan for Karachi could be introduced as a model project to be emulated by other districts of the province. He emphasized timely completion of mega-projects of the city.

The meeting was attended by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Local Government) Muhammad Saleem Khan, DCO Karachiand other officials.-PPI
