HYDERABAD: Woman seeks protection

Published February 6, 2004

HYDERABAD, Feb 5: A woman, Noor Bano, has said that she is being threatened by his father and brothers with dire consequences because she had married Fida Lashari of her own will.

Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday, she appealed to the authorities to provide her protection and withdraw a false case which was registered against her on the basis of a fake Nikahnama.

Her husband, Fida Lashari, was also present on the occasion.

Noor Bano said she had given an affidavit before the judicial magistrate of Mirpurkhas on June 29, 2002 that she wanted to marry of her own free will to avoid the registration of any false case against her.

She said a case of kidnapping under the Zina and Hudood Ordinance was filed against her and her husband at the Mirpurkhas town police station.

Noor Bano said the police recorded her statement in the court of law under section 164 CrPC and allowed her to go wherever she liked.

She said she was happily living with her husband but her parents had managed to prepare a fake Nikahnama that she was already married to another man.

She said her and her husband's lives were in danger and they were hiding in one place to the other.
