RAWALPINDI, Jan 31: The law-enforcement agencies and military personnel daily scour buildings located along the 30 kilometre VVIP route two hours ahead of the movement of President General Pervez Musharraf from Army House to the Aiwan-i-Sadr and vice versa , security sources told Dawn.

They said the doors of the buildings were locked, entry and exit points of the fillings stations blocked and movement of pedestrians within 200 yards of the route restricted. The buildings are searched by the sniffer dogs and the bomb disposal squads accompanied by specially-trained police units to detect explosives, they added.

The sources said in addition to the dozens of military intelligence agencies officials, over 950 police and special branch personnel were deployed along the VVIP route.

The deployment is carried out on three different roads connecting Army House with the Awan-i-Sadr, they added. "It presents a curfew-like situation and nobody is allowed to enter or exit his house."

Students, employees and ambulances cannot reach their destinations, as link roads are completely closed to ensure foolproof security for the president."
