5 soldiers among 12 killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Five Indian soldiers and seven militants were killed in two clashes in occupied Kashmir on Saturday. The first gunfight occurred in the district of Pulwama, where two Indian guards and one militant were killed.

Indian guards had carried out a raid on a tipoff that the Hizbul Mujahideen's intelligence chief, Tariq Aziz, was present there.

Mr Aziz escaped, but his bodyguard was killed, police said.

In the second incident, three Indian army soldiers, including an officer, and six militants were killed in Baramulla district. -AFP
