DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 19: Balochistan Governor Awais Ghani visited the Kachhi Canal project site on Tuesday. He was welcomed by Wapda and district government officials and was given presentation on the project at Taunsa Barrage. Later, he had an aerial view of the construction works.
He stressed the need to speed up the execution of the project which was the first major water plan for Balochistan from the Indus arm. Work on the canal was taken in hand in October, 2002. Originating from Taunsa Barrage, it will run parallel to the D.G. Khan Canal passing through Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
The first 300 kilometres of the canal in the Punjab will be lined and the remaining 200 kilometres in Balochistan will be earthen. Its command area falls in Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Bolan and Jhal Magsi in Balochistan. It has been designed to develop 713,000 acres of fertile land.
