KARACHI, April 19: The opening of trade through Khokrapar-Monabao routes would foster the India-Pakistan trade besides increasing the movement of commodities and people of both the countries. The 17-point agenda of President Pervez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, reactivation of Pakistan-India Joint Commission and meeting of joint business council would mark a new era of cooperation and trade between the two countries, the president FPCCI, Chaurdhry Mohammad Saeed said.
Opening of consulates in Karachi and Mumbai would facilitate exchange of businessmen, which would bring business communities closer, he said adding that enhanced cooperation would contribute to the well being of the two peoples and brought prosperity in the region.
In a statement, he said that the FPCCI would follow up the decisions of the two governments for activation of joint business council and regular business meetings between entrepreneurs of the two countries.
He expressed the hope that Pakistan and India would resolve the core issue of Kashmir in the best interest of the people of their respective countries.
KCCI: The president Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Khalid Firoz said that functioning of the Council and the Commission would lead to the identification of items to be traded between the two countries. The KCCI had already set up a committee, headed by A.Q. Khalil, to undertake this exercise.
He expressed the hope that president’s visit to India would pave the way for further improving the environment for trade promotion. He supported the principle stand of the president on trade that country’s industry would be protected and trade must be to the mutual advantage of the two countries.
