KARACHI, April 17: A mass wedding of 315 couples was arranged by Karachi Zakat and Ushr Committee in its rehabilitation programme for deserving people, here on Sunday at Baradari, Gulshan-i-Jinnah (Old Polo Ground). The ceremony was also attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Federal Ministers Shamim Siddiqui, Babar Ghori, Provincial Ministers Adil Siddiqui, Rauf Siddiqui, Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr Manzoor Panhwar, Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider, members of parliament, besides parents, relatives of the couples and notables of the city.

The Sindh governor announced gifts of Rs1,000 to each bride from his pocket.

He praised the zakat committee for helping the girls and their families who could not afford marriage expenses of their daughters.—APP
