KARACHI, April 15: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan said that there was no problem of law and order in Karachi and blamed the western media for portraying the metropolis as a “city of terrorists”. He was talking to a 25-member delegation of six big French companies that called on him at conference room of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Secretariat, Civic Centre on Thursday evening. French Consul-General Jean Yves Berthhault was present and also spoke.

The French investors expressed keen interest in numerous city government’s projects including construction of hospital with modern facilities and parking buildings, establishment of parks, improvement of transport system, development of coastlines, improvement of water supply and sewerage system and setting up of garbage dens.

Speaking on the occasion, the nazim said that international conferences and exhibitions, held in Karachi during the last three years, were largely attended by foreign delegates, which was an evidence of a peaceful environment of the city.

Terming growing interest of foreign investors to invest in Karachi “encouraging”, he said various projects were underway in the city with the cooperation of foreign investors.

The nazim said that the CDGK had already made agreements with a US firm for desalination project and Austrian company for affluent water treatment.

He said increasing population of Karachi demanded encouragement of foreign investors to develop the city and make it conformed to modern needs.

On the occasion, EDOs of various CDGK departments briefed the delegation about details of future projects of their respective departments. — PPI
