HYDERABAD, April 14: A two-member monitoring committee from the planning and development department of the Government of Sindh arrived here on Thursday to hold a meeting with the district coordination officer and the management of the Hyderabad Development Authority.

The committee members, Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui, chief of physical planning and housing, planning department, Hyderabad; and Inayatullah Qureshi, director of the monitoring and evaluation cell, planning department, Karachi, reviewed the pace of work being executed under the Governor’s special package of Rs500 million for the improvement of the water supply and sewerage systems in the city as well as in Latifabad and Qasimabad.

DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, who is also the HDA chairman, informed the committee members that ‘Five PC-1’, which included 128 water supply and sewerage works, had been prepared against the package.

He said that after utilization of Rs9 million out of the released amount of Rs250 million, the remaining amount had lapsed, adversely affecting the development work, and added that this year, Rs100 million were released for resumption of the pending works and, subsequently, 48 works were undertaken.

He said that 13 out of 48 ongoing works had been completed, while progress on the remaining schemes stood at 60 per cent, with 26 per cent of the released amount utilized by March, and assured the delegates that the remaining amount would be utilized by the year-end.

Assuring the DCO that the Sindh government was keen to release the remaining amount subject to utilization of the amount released earlier, the committee members asked the district planning and development department to submit a three-year progress report on the development schemes recommended by elected representatives within a week.

EXAM FORMS: The additional controller of examinations of the LUMHS has fixed April 25 for the submission of examination forms of the first professional MBBS (part-I) bi-annual examination 2005 at LUMHS Jamshoro, Chandka Medical College Larkana, People’s Medical College and Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College.

He announced the schedule of practical, viva-voce examination of final professional MBBS bi-annual examination 2004 (new course) for the students of LUMHS. Practical/viva-voce of medicine subject will be held on April 16, paediatrics on April 18, surgery on April 20, ENT on April 23 and eye subject on April 25.
