KARACHI, April 12: The Provincial Minister for Planning and Development, Syed Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, along with MPA Syed Jarar Shah, laid the foundation stone of postgraduate classes’ project at Government College for Women, Korangi No 4 here on Tuesday. The project envisages construction of 8 classrooms, four staffrooms, medical room, administration block, library, auditorium, computer lab, Canteen etc.

The project will spread over an area of 146,577 sq-feet and will be completed in the year 2008 at a cost of Rs45.441 million.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bukhari said that in order to raise the ratio of higher education, the Sindh government had decided to launch postgraduate classes in 12 colleges of Sindh for which Rs259.70 million had been earmarked.

The colleges in Karachi to have postgraduate classes will be Mujibunnisa Government Girls College New Karachi, Degree Girls College Lyari, Government Girls College Nazimabad, Government Girls Shaheed-i-Millat College Azizabad and Government Degree College for Women, Korangi No 4.

Mr Bukhari said that now postgraduation in education, economics, English and commerce would be possible for female students in these colleges.

MPA Syed Jarar Ahmed Shah demanded of the finance department to allocate funds for the development of Government College for Women Korangi No 4.

Earlier the minister distributed prizes among position holder students of the college.

Principal Khurshid Jaffery, District Officers Siddiq Khokhar, Asghar Ali Khan and Munawar Zaid were also present. — APP
