PESHAWAR, April 11: District Nazim Mohammad Sharif Khattak has said that 100 per cent enrolment in schools would be ensured as a result of joint efforts of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and education department during the current school-enrolment campaign. He was addressing inauguration ceremony of a week-long Universal Primary Education Enrolment Campaign under the auspices of education department and the NCHD on Monday.

Besides a number of elected representatives, students, teachers, religious scholars and parents, the ceremony was also attended by EDO Schools and Literacy Mohammad Rafiq Khattak, General Manager NCHD Nasim Ejaz Khattak and Chairman District Monitoring Committee Haji Rasool Jan also attended the ceremony.

It merits a mention here that a total of 16,000 out-of-school children would be enrolled in various schools of the district. The campaign will continue from April 11 to April 16.

The district Nazim said that education was the key to success and it was need of the hour to equip coming generation with latest technology-based education. He said that until and unless the country achieved 100 percent enrolment at primary level, it could not achieve 100 percent literacy rate.

Hailing the efforts of NCHD, the district Nazim said that it had so far opened more than 150 feeder schools in the district. These children admitted to these schools were not studying anywhere due to long distance between their homes and nearest schools.

Speaking on the occasion, EDO Schools and Literacy Mohammad Rafiq Khattak said that 100 percent literacy would be achieved by the year 2015. He said there was a time when the Muslims ruled the world but now they were led behind in almost every filed of life.

General Manager NCHD Nasim Ejaz Khattak said that community volunteers and teachers of education department would ensure 100 percent enrolment of children in schools in the campaign. He requested people from every walk of life to make the enrolment campaign a success through active involvement. He asked parents to enrol their children in school.

GOVERNOR: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has said that the government is taking all steps to provide students with the required educational facilities and asked them to benefit from these facilities to be able to shoulder the future responsibilities.

Addressing the 14th International Children Health Conference organized jointly by the Hamdard Foundation and Hamdard Public School in connection with the World Health Day, he said the problems being faced by the nation in the education sector were the result of ignoring this sector in the past.

Students from Afghanistan, Turkey and Iran also attended the conference, said an official handout issued later.
