KARACHI, April 10: A major fire broke out in a plastic factory in the Korangi Industrial Area on Sunday morning. A spokesman for the fire department said the fire broke in plastic units located at plots 86 and 87 in sector 23 of the KIA. The fire broke out at around 7:30am and was controlled in the afternoon. Thirteen fire tenders extinguished the fire.

Quoting an official of the factory, the spokesman said losses went into millions of rupees. However, no injuries were reported in the massive fire.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.

Shortage of water posed a major impediment in controlling the fire which was already raging due to plastic burning, the spokesman added.

KILLED: An elderly man was killed by unidentified people in Saeedabad on Sunday.

Police said the body of Shahjehan, 62, was found in Faizullah Goth, Saeedabad. Shahjehan had been strangled and his trussed up body was found from his house.

Police are investigating the motive behind the killing.

DIES: An elderly man died of an apparent heart attack during a police raid in his house in Lyari late Saturday night.

According to reports, Karim Bux, 65, died of shock when police raided his house.

Police said they were looking for Sajid alias Tunda and Amjad, close associates of a bandit, Rehman. They claimed that the two suspects were related to a local union council nazim. They alleged that the nazim was exploiting the incident.

ENCOUNTER: Police on Sunday arrested two cell phone snatchers in Defence and recovered a snatched vehicle along with cell phones from their possession.

According to police, three armed persons barged into a real estate office of Ayaz Khan in the DHA, Phase-II Extension. After taking the inmates hostage at gunpoint, they collected six cell phones and Rs10,000 from the office. They also took away a pickup (CE-2415) along with the driver.

As the robbers came on the main Korangi Road, a police mobile of the Defence police station tried to intercept them, ensuing an exchange of fire.

No one was injured and police arrested the two accused, identified as Manzoor Husain and Abdul Sattar. Their third accomplice, later identified as Mohammad Saleem, escaped.

Police recovered four cell phones and two TT pistols from their possession.
