KARACHI, April 9: The Joint Action Committee for People’s Rights has condemned leadership of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for extending threats of violence against women.

At its meeting, held at the HRCP office on Saturday, the committee deplored that religious parties would impose their views on issues like Hudood Ordinance, inclusion of religion column in passport or participation of women in sports in a violent manner.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Aurat Foundation, Shirkat Gah, Urban Resource Centre, Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research, National Workers’ Party, and the HRCP.

The meeting noted with regret that the government had repeatedly submitted to such elements and this had further emboldened them to make more demands.
