Yasir in Irish Open main draw

KARACHI, April 8: Pakistani youngster Yasir Butt will feature in the main rounds of the 2005 Irish Open Squash Championship to be held in Dublin next week.

According to the draws of the world ranking tournament to be played from April 13 to 16, Yasir from Lahore is the only Pakistani in the 16-man main rounds of the tournament and is placed In the upper half of the draw.

This year’s Irish Open carries a prize purse of US$15,000 and has attracted several leading players from the World Tour.

Asian champion Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia is e top seed of the tournament. In fact Hee would be Yasir’s opening round opponent.

Apart from Yasir, two more Pakistan would also be taking part in the tournament but will have to go through the qualifying rounds. Peshawar’s Arshad Iqbal Burki is the top seed in the April 11-12 qualifying rounds while former national junior champion Majid Khan will also be vying for a main round berth.—PPI
