GUJRANWALA, April 8: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Friday rejected the bail application of former Sialkot jail assistant superintendent Ghulam Sarwar involved in the jail incident.
Counsel for the accused pleaded that his client was not involved in the death of judges in jail and he should be bailed out in accordance with the law. But the court rejected his plea.
Former Gujranwala DIG Malik Mohammad Iqbal, former Sialkot DPO Amjad Javed Saleemi, Gujrat DPO Raja Munawwar Hasan and Dr Sajjad Ahmad of the Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital requested the court to exempt them from appearance before the court on every hearing, but judge Mujahid Mustaqim adjourned the case till April 15.
All accused involved in the
jail case were present in the court.
road project: The six-way GT Road construction project from Gujranwala to Lahore has been started.
This was stated by the National Highway Authority and Motorway Police high-ranking officials at a meeting here on Friday.
In the first phase of the project, they said, trees along the road would be chopped down as the forest department had auctioned them from Chand Da Qila bypass intersection to Shahdara in an open bid that fetched Rs12.3 million.
The meeting was told that Rs3 billion would be spent on the construction of six lanes on the road. The construction would start in June for which known companies would be hired, they said.
KILLED: A minor boy was killed when a pistol went off accidentally at Wapda Town on Friday.
Reports said Abdullah, son of expatriate Irshad Ahmad, was playing with father’s pistol which went off and hit him. He died instantly.
Police are investigating.
