SUKKUR, April 8: Sindh Irrigation Minister Nadir Akmal Leghari has said that rehabilitation work of the Sukkur Barrage will be completed soon.

Talking to newsmen in Daharki on Friday, he said water would be released below Kotri downstream as there was enough water available in Sindh barrages due to heavy rains in the Indus catchment area.

He said a development package for Daharki and Mirpur Mathelo would be announced shortly while Rs230 millions had already been spent over several developments schemes in the area.

He said facilities of landline and wireless local loop phone had been provided in the far-flung areas of the province.

Mr Leghari said the federal minister for information technology, Awais Khan Leghari, would soon inaugurate U-fone in the area.

He said more than 10,000 employments would be provided in various departments of Sindh including irrigation, health, education, revenue, police and excise.

HELD: Police on Friday arrested Farid Shaikh in Pano Akil for throwing acid over his wife, daughter and brother-in-law about six days back.

The accused has been locked up at the Rohri police station.

Farid, a resident of Rohri, threw acid over his wife, daughter and brother-in-law on April 2 due to which they were injured seriously and admitted to the Sukkur civil hospital where their condition was said to be critical.

RELEASED: Shakoor Ghoto and Irshad Ghoto, who were kidnapped in the Miani police area near Kashmore about 15 days back reached home safely on Friday.

Police claimed both the hostages were released without paying any ransom while parents of the hostages claimed that they had paid Rs600,000 ransom money.

In the meantime, Bashir Samejo, who was also kidnapped some two months back from near Kashmore also reached home safely.

He also claimed that his relatives had paid ransom money for his release.
