KARACHI, April 4: Attackers mustered 97 Victory Points (VPs) to grab the Swiss bridge tournament title at Aslam Memorial Hall on Sunday. Attackers, having Azwer-ul-Haque, Rafiq Hingora, S.M. Ozair and Nasir Reza Khan, won five matches to finish at the top. Attackers beat Chandna 18-12, IV-Bidders 17-13, IV-Bidders Club 21-9, Mahmood-IV 24-6 and Chandna 17-13.

Candyland, with its three regular pairs, Ismail-Mubashir, Zia-Hamid, Khalid Hasan-Askari finished runners-up with 94 VPs.

Candyland started with a narrow 16-14 win over Dynamo and then defeated Maq 21-09, outplayed Kibitzers 21-9 and routed Aggressive 24-6 but suffered 13-17 loss to Attackers.

IV-Bidders with 88 VPs secured third spot. Having S.P. Jamal, Qamar Puri, Mushahid, Shahab Seaed and Taqi, they won four of their five matches.

They overpowered Maq 16-14, Chandna 18-12, Dynamo 22-8, whipped Mahmood-IV 18-12 but went down 13-17 against Attackers.

In the Mitchel Movement, S.P.Jamal-Wazir Durani topped in pair contest with 62.29% while Norwegian pair of Bjorn Glomstad and Olf-Johnson took second position with a score 60.12% followed by Irfan Khan-Tanvir Mazhar 56.28%.

It was a close finish at the other side of the table with all three pairs finishing with hairline difference. Ameer Hussain-Tariq Zafa topped with 56.25 per cent. Qamar Puri-Shahab Saeed 55,95% were second and Afzal Shaikh-Nasir Ahmed Khan 55.06% were third.

In the meantime Super Marathon Team Bridge Championship will be held at Aslam Bridge Hall from April 15.

It will be seven round Swiss movement contest with 14 teams in fray.—APP
