1.5kg heroin seized at airport

RAWALPINDI, April 3: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) personnel arrested an African national and seized 1.5kg heroin from his possession at Islamabad International Airport on Sunday.

Sources said the ANF staff intercepted the African national, Frederick, during check in for a China-bound flight.

During search, the ANF personnel seized the narcotics concealed skillfully in a photo frame.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad police claimed to have shot and injured two suspects after an exchange of fire at Gond Gali falling in the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town police station.

The incident took place when the police conducted a raid after receiving information that a proclaimed offender — Zia — would be attending his sister’s wedding.

The police said when the raid was underway at around 1:30pm, a shootout between the law-enforcement agency personnel and participants of the marriage function started which continued till sunset. Reinforcements from Rawalpindi were also called in, they added.

The police said during exchange of fire, two of the villagers sustained bullet injuries and were removed to hospital. However, the police have so far been unable to trace the injured.

Tension prevailed in the area as the police had been searching for the armed men till filing of this report.
