SADIQABAD, April 3: Women teachers in the district have decided to stage a demonstration in front of the Parliament House, Islamabad, on May 20 to press for their demands, which they claim, the federal education minister had pledged to accept.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Punjab Teachers Union, Women Wing, presided over by district president Rehana Iram on Sunday.

Union office-bearers Meharunisa, Shama Parveen, Razia Sultana, Ms Mumtaz Begum and Shamshad Begum, speaking on the occasion, demanded that minister Javed Ashraf Qazi should honour the commitment made during his meeting with PTU representatives and issue a notification to the effect immediately.

Teachers were demanding proper security for female staff, a complete ban on political interference in girls schools, besides female clerical staff.

They also demanded that only female officers be allowed to inspect schools and decide transfer of teachers.

They warned that if notification for revision of pay scale and other agreed issues was not issued immediately, teachers would launch a countrywide protest from April 4.

RECOVERED: Police claimed to have recovered a girl on Sunday from Multan, who had allegedly been kidnapped by six armed people 15 days back, and also arrested one of the accused.

Armed accused Arshad, Iqbal, Jameel, Bashir, Kaloo and Niaz had allegedly kidnapped “k” of Zahir Pir village when she was on her way to bring fodder for cattle. They kept her in illegal confinement for 15 days and during the period also raped her.

After hectic search efforts, the police recovered the girl along with main accused Arshad from Multan.

The father of the girl alleged that the accused were roaming freely, and threatening him with dire consequences. He also demanded registration of cases against the other accused.
