BANGALORE, March 27: Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clarified on Sunday that Inzamamul Haq had not been appointed the captain till the 2007 World Cup.

“The appointment of captain will be on a series to series basis and for now he will lead the side to West Indies in April,” Shaharyar M. Khan told journalists at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

He regretted that Inzamam had spoken out against paceman Shoaib Akhtar. “His absence is being felt on this tour and he will return to the side whenever he regains fitness.”

Inzamam admitted that he had opposed Shoaib’s inclusion on more than one occasion because of his non-cricketing attitude. Shoaib had to miss this tour because of a hamstring injury.

Shaharyar said that a good number of fans could not make it to India because of visa problems.

“According to the arrangement we had, the BCCI were to send us the tickets for the fans to obtain visas. But the tickets got delayed because their processing here is the job of the state associations and not the board.”
