OKARA, May 30: An advocate and an ASI scuffled and sustained injuries on Thursday when the former accused the latter of corruption in an ongoing case.

Reports said Advocate Sohail Anwar was pleading a bail with the court of District and Sessions Judge Naseem Akhtar Khan. During agreement, he accused investigation officer ASI Subhan Ijaz of corruption. After an exchange of harsh words, the policeman overpowered the advocate and beat him.

The advocate reported the matter to the court. Two hours later, he found the ASI in the court of Civil Judge Iftikhar Ahmad and started beating him. Both the officials sustained injuries during the scuffle.

Eye witnesses told this correspondent that the court room became a scene of rumpus. The Elite Force rushed to the scene and controlled the situation.

Later, members of the local District Bar Association passed a resolution at a meeting, demanding termination of the ASI and registration of a case against him. They threatened they would continue strike till fulfilment of their demands.

SSP Shahid Iqbal suspended ASI from service and appointed DSP Chaudhry Fazal Ahmad to inquire into the matter.

Former DBA President Advocate Mahmoodur Rahman Lashari was also injured during the scuffle.

The ASI and the advocate were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Ghulam Mustafa of Eidgah borrowed money from one Muhammad Nawaz. He shot dead Nawaz when he demanded the money back.

Haveli police have registered a case.
