VEHARI, March 22: Former provincial minister and PML-N leader Hafiz Iqbal Khakwani was sent to judicial lockup in Multan on 14-day remand. Earlier, Mr Khakwani was produced before the court of area magistrate/civil judge Rana Khalil who issued the judicial remand. On this occasion, a number of PML-N office-bearers and workers raised slogans against political victimization and demanded immediate release of the ex-minister.

Reports said Luddan police had arrested Mr Iqbal Khakwani on Monday from Multan because of his alleged involvement in the murder of three people over a land dispute on Saturday night in Mustafabad village.

The police had registered a case against 16 people of the Khakwani clan under Section 109 of the PPC on the complaint of Joiya clan head Altaf Joiya.

Talking to the press outside the court, Mr Iqbal Khakwani said he was not involved in the murder and the claim of Joiya family was baseless and fake. He alleged that the government wanted to win himover, but these tactics would be foiled.
