TORONTO, March 19: 53-hour wait of 253 PIA passengers at Toronto ended when their Boeing777 jet, which was grounded at Pearson International Airport, left for Karachi after rectification of its fault. PIA officials told Dawn that their delayed flight PK-790 departed for Manchester on its way to Karachi on Thursday at 11.45 pm (Toronto time) after necessary repair work was done to put the aircraft’s hydro mechanical unit in order. PIA’s Airport Manager Ejaz Shah said a spare part was needed which was delivered by the British Airways late Thursday evening. He said the flight was scheduled to leave Toronto on Tuesday at 6 pm (local time) but it could not take off because of a ‘technical difficulty’. He said its passengers were provided hotel for more than two days and PIA officials visited them frequently. ‘Even some of the passengers were provided diapers for their kids,’ said Shah who also left for Lahore by the same flight. He had to cancel his two-day leave and personally look after the passengers.
