HYDERABAD, March 15: The Anti-Greater Thal Canal and Kalabagh Dam Action Committee has announced its support to people of Balochistan in their struggle for their rights.

It also assured the Awami Tehrik of its support in its long march from Sukkur to Karachi against water projects, besides supporting the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement’s call for a strike on March 31.

The committee at its meeting held at the residence of MPA Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi here on Monday night also decided to hold all-parties conferences at divisional headquarters on burning issues confronting Sindh.

Briefing journalists, the convener of the committee and president of the Sindh chapter of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, said leaders of the parties in the committee would participate in a protest sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club at the conclusion of the AT march on March 29. Activists of the affiliated parties would also participate in the country-wide strike on March 31, announced by Ponam, he added.

He observed that people of the country would not accept arbitrary and unilateral decisions of the rulers.

Mr Shah termed the Kalabagh dam and the Thal canal dangerous for the country’s unity.

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leaders protested against the lukewarm response of the committee towards the MMA’s general strike call for April 2.

However, in response to a question, Mr Shah said if the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy leadership announced its support to the strike call, the action committee would also extend its full support.

Those who attended the meeting included AT chief Rasool Bux Palijo, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi, Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Makhdoom Shahnawaz, Sindh National Front leader Ayub Shar, Jamaat Islami leader Abdul Waheed Qureshi and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Maulana Taj Mohammad Nahyoon.

National Party leader Dr Hayee Baloch attended the meeting as a special guest.

During briefing, he told journalists that an all-parties conference would soon be convened in Balochistan where a joint strategy would be chalked out against what he called the unconstitutional government.

He regretted that rain and flood victims were not being provided with any help.
