LAHORE, March 9: Advocate M.D. Tahir on Wednesday moved the Lahore High Court in a contempt of court petition against the traffic police in Lahore for continuing to book motorcyclists without helmet in defiance of court instructions.

The lawyer sought from the court to penalize Punjab ministers Shamshad Ahmad and Hasan Waseem Afzal, chief secretary Kamran Rasool, SP Traffic Faisal Hasnain and the transport secretary for showing disregard to court orders.

The lawyer-petitioner quoted from newspapers, stating the court had directed the Punjab police to allow a grace period of one month in implementing the order making helmet mandatory.

The lawyer-petitioner requested the court to indict the offending Punjab ministers and officers for disobeying court orders, and sought a refund of the amount collected as fine from motorcyclists.
