ISLAMABAD, March 8: District Officer Cooperatives, Rawalpindi, on Tuesday dissolved a committee overseeing the affairs of the Supreme Court Employees Cooperative Housing Society and constituted a caretaker body to hold new elections , an official source told Dawn.

The compulsory retirement of ex-registrar Supreme Court M A Farooqi, also president of the committee, on charges of misappropriation and corruption, led to the dissolution of the body, the source said. The housing scheme had been approved by the Capital Development Authority in Sector G-17.

The caretaker committee, constituted after consultation with the Supreme Court authorities, will function for a period of 180 days and hold elections to elect a new body in a transparent manner, the source said.

Shariq Saleem, according to the order, will act as convenor of the caretaker committee, which will also comprise Fawad Ahmed, Muhammad Umar, Iqbal Naseer and M Ilyas Abbasi as members. Assistant registrar Cooperative Societies, Rawalpindi, will also act as the official representative of the registrar Cooperatives Societies in the committee.

The copies of the order have also been sent to registrar cooperatives Punjab, executive district officer, community development, Rawalpindi, and deputy district officer cooperatives Rawalpindi.
