HYDERABAD: Award for Dr Leghari

HYDERABAD, March 7: Renowned eye specialist and chairman of the department of ophthalmology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Prof (Dr) Nazeer Ashraf Leghari, has been declared the best teacher by the Higher Education Commission for 2004.

Dr Leghari, who is also president of the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan, left for Islamabad to receive the best teacher award which will be given by HEC chairman Prof Attaur Rehman on Tuesday.

Dr Leghari is also the recipient of the presidential award, 2003, in ophthalmology. Talking to Dawn, he said the award was not only an honour for him but also for his alma mater.

LABS OPENED: University of Sindh Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on Monday inaugurated a detector development laboratory and a computer laboratory at the department of physics. The detector development laboratory has been established at a cost of Rs5 million. The computer laboratory has latest computers with Internet facility.

Research scholars of the physics department briefed the vice-chancellor about the ongoing research project in the detector development laboratory. They said the project was the first attempt to develop a high-resolution gamma radiation detector fabrication in the country.
