KARACHI, March 3: The lives of motorcyclists and motorists are at grave risk due to ill-designed speed-breakers recently constructed at the junction of two roads near Sohrab Goth intersection.

Authorities of Lyari Expressway project had erected the speed-breakers a few days ago, in connection with the superstructure of the expressway. But surprisingly, they are built at both sides of the traffic lights at the Sohrab Goth traffic intersection; the junctions of the roads coming from Nagan Chowrangi and Gulshan Chowrangi. This junction of road also lacked proper road lights.

One of the speed-breakers on the road coming from the Gulshan Chowrangi near Gulberg Town Office is only half-built. Due to unusually high slope of these speed-breakers, numerous motorcycles are skidded, especially at night, resulting in injuries to many riders.

The situation worsened when many pillion-riders, with females and kids, slipped off these breakers. Rightly terming these badly erected speed-breakers as the 'car breakers', many motorists have complained that besides occasional injuries, the chassis of their cars have to suffer grave damage.

The motorcyclists and car drivers have urged the CDGK and the Lyari Expressway authorities to either remove these speed-breakers or change their shape and also arrange streetlights at the shady spots of the road due to the roadside trees. -PPI
