DERA GHAZI KHAN, March 2: The district government has refused to shift the tribal area tehsil offices from Dera Ghazi Khan tehsil and Taunsa Sharif tehsil to Fort Munru in response to an official letter from the Punjab assembly secretariat.

It was learnt here on Wednesday that some 12 MPAs floated resolution 224 in 18th session of the Punjab Assembly for the shifting of tribal area tehsil offices. The Punjab Assembly secretariat had written a letter to the District Nazim and its administration to act upon the resolution.

But the District Nazim refused to obey the instructions on the plea that tribes of the tribal area would object the establishment of tehsil office at Fort Munro, which is the headquarters of the Leghari tribe.

Till 1947, the inter-tribal jirga would settle problems and feuds of all Baloch tribes of Balochistan and tribal areas of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur at Fort Munro. Although the tribal area tehsil has all its offices in Dera Ghazi Khan tehsil, yet it has no boys or girls college in its own area.

With a population of 136,186, the tribal area tehsil comprises five union councils. In spite of this, the tribal area tehsil has only two metalled roads - Dera-Quetta Road and Dera-Barthi Road. The construction of roads in five UCs of the tribal area would pave way for establishing its own offices at its own jurisdiction.
