DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 28: At the district council session held on Monday, District Nazim Jamal Khan Leghari took serious notice of deteriorating cleanliness , encroachments and traffic jams in the city, while some members demanded a discussion on the alleged corruption of tehsil Nazim, besides the anti-corruption raid and cancellation of tenders of development schemes for 2004-05.

The session was attended by 27 out of 87 members, including three female members. EDO Dr Faiz Ali Jaskani requested the members to extend their help in the anti-polio campaign from March 1 to 3.

As many as nine resolutions were on the agenda, which pertained to the incomplete development schemes, traffic jams created by motorcycle rickshaws, encroachments at Pakistani Chowk and rest of the city, demand of compensation for the flood-hit people of Gaddai union council and repair work at the district council hall.

All resolutions were adopted by the house, while the members, Ejaz Khetran and Nazar Mureedani, demanded a discussion on the recent raid of anti-corruption team at the office of tehsil administration, DG Khan, in which the record of the Annual Development Programme (2004-05) was confiscated, and the tenders for the schemes were cancelled.

The members asked on a point of order to the district Nazim to take action against Tehsil Nazim Aasim Zubair and demanded an inquiry into the alleged irregularities. The convener rejected the demand by saying that the matter was not in the jurisdiction of the district council .

Member Shahida Quraishi mentioned the availability of spurious medicines at government medical store at the DHQ hospital, and demanded action against the same. She alleged that the medicines provided by the government were being sold in market.

Tribal area member Hamid Leghari told the house that as a result of flood and long spell of rains, diseases had spread among the live stock in the tribal area, while the district officer concerned, A.D. Khosa, was not paying attention towards the problem despite the repeated demands made by the local people.

Those who spoke at the session were, Ejaz Khetran, Nazar Mureedani, Mian Abu Bakkir, Shahida Quraishi, Mushtaq Bughlani, DCO and Tariq Khetran. Later on, the district Nazim and DCO inspected the Company Bagh, Municipal Library, the Press Club, Bhutta Colony and Model Town.
